EMULATION

PC Engine

Three emulators are available:
PC Engine --- VPCE --- Hugo

Also see DarcNES, which includes PC Engine support.

Name PC Engine
Author Paul Clifford (paul@plasma.demon.co.uk)
Port of None: Original ARM code
Available Paul's web site or Acorn Gaming
Supports Many games; some problems and no sprite-clipping
Speed Full speed on a StrongARM; slow on rest
Version 0.21 (as of 15/12/98)
This is an early release of a native Acorn ARM-code PC Engine emulator. The PC Engine played host to many top games and this excellent piece of coding allows StrongARM players to play a good many of them at full-speed.

Name VPCE
Author Paul Clifford (paul@plasma.demon.co.uk)
Port of Virtual PC Engine
Available Paul's web site
Supports Most games
Speed Average 24fps on StrongARMs; Risc PC only
Version 0.2b (as of 15/12/98)
This is a port of Jens Ch. Restemeier's Virtual PC Engine emulator, and allows you to play original PC Engine games on your Acorn (called the TurboGrafX 16 in America). Many top arcade games are available for the PC Engine, such as R-Type and various famous racing games. This version has no sound.

Paul is now working on his own emulator (see above) and so will not be producing any further ports of VPCE.

Name Hugo
Author David McEwen (david@acornemus.freeserve.co.uk)
Port of Hugo by Zeograd
Available David's web site, or Acorn Gaming
Supports Virtually all games
Speed Roughly full-speed on StrongARM with frameskip 1; very slow on other machines
Version 1.01 - 19/11/00 (as of 29/12/00)

This emulator can run the larger ROMs which the earlier Acorn emulators by Paul Clifford can't hope with. A couple of screenshots:
